Walkable City
Landscape Design

Hsinchu is a compact city with a dense urban core, offering an ideal opportunity to develop a pedestrian-friendly urban environment. The city’s master plan focuses on three core concepts: greenery, history, and an academic zone. By utilizing green spaces to connect existing urban green areas, the plan extends the green belt through the city center, creating safe and comfortable pathways for pedestrians and fostering a more walkable city.

This project was my first professional endeavor, where I worked in the government sector, overseeing the planning, procurement, on-site execution, and final acceptance of four parks as part of the "Advancing Hsinchu Parks" initiative. These parks, all located within a 15-minute walk from the train station, were renovated to serve as vibrant community spaces. In collaboration with an environmental design company, I was responsible for tender documentation, drawing review, and budget approval, as well as coordinating construction on-site to ensure smooth implementation.

The project aimed to integrate existing infrastructure with community habits, designing diverse activity spaces to meet local needs. Despite the short three-month construction period for each park, the project successfully strengthened the green belt system, enhanced pedestrian connections, and improved relations with local residents. This experience taught me the importance of efficient project coordination, rapid implementation, and fostering community engagement in urban development.
